Virginia pine has been the staple of the Christmas tree industry in the south for many years. It's considered a small to medium sized tree which grows naturally from central Pennsylvania south into northern Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. The needle length will range from 1 to 3 inches on the different characteristic trees. It grows rapidly and has two flushes of new growth each year. When it has been trimmed after each new flush and maintained, it is similar to the Scotch pine which grows farther north. It makes an attractive Christmas tree with a pleasing pine aroma.
